We make it easy for parents to obtain accurate, evidence-based information about teen drug and alcohol use and abuse from the privacy of their own homes via our Facebook Page and website.
Today’s teens live in a very different world than the one their parents grew up in. It is a world where children grow up more quickly, often experimenting with drugs or alcohol at a very young age. Those early “experiments” can have dangerous or deadly results or set the stage neurologically for a lifetime struggle with drugs or alcohol. These dangers can reduced if families understand the high stakes games that teens play with that first drink or pill. Pathway to Prevention is here to educate and support families with evidence-based resources that help parents and teens make wise and informed choices about drug and alcohol use and abuse.
Here are some of the resources we provide:
- Parent Awareness Campaigns
We partner with schools to develop and implement Parent Awareness Campaigns for high schools that may include parent awareness/attitude surveys, ongoing Messages from the Principal, presentations from youth who are in recovery from substance abuse, and more. - Parent Awareness Reports
We provide monthly reports on topics like Talking with your Teen about Drugs and Alcohol, The Dangers of Spice/K2, and Prescription Medication Abuse Leading to Heroin. Parents and school administrators can find these evidence-based downloadable reports on our website, through our newsletter, or on our Facebook Page. - Keeping the Conversation Going on Facebook
We research and distribute daily updates, breaking news and on-going discussions about teen drug and alcohol trends, developments and issues through our Facebook Page. - The Collision Course – Teen Addiction Epidemic documentary
This documentary sponsored by Pathway to Prevention follows teens and young adults who progress from casual drug and alcohol use to full-blown chemical dependency. Filmed in the Sacramento area, Collision Course offers a stark yet accurate view of the way teens stumble into substance use and abuse. Collision Course is 26-minutes long and is rated TV-14. The documentary has been shown on PBS stations nationwide, and the nine-minute trailer has been viewed on YouTube over 200,000 times. Collision Course was awarded an Emmy in 2012. - We Support Community Awareness
We also support community awareness and dialogue on our Facebook page to help parents understand local issues and resources. And we offer accurate and actionable information and resources to parents at Sacramento-area schools, community organizations or houses of faith to help them navigate the teen drug and alcohol scene.
